Rules and regulations

VPS is authorised to operate as a central securities depository in Norway. Our activities are subject to regulation by the Ministry of Finance and are subject to supervision by the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway.

 

 

Public access to the share register

VPS is not permitted to answer enquiries on the identity of shareholders in VPS registered companies. The rules on access to shareholder information are set out in regulations issued pursuant to the Public Companies Act, and include the following stipulation: “The share register must be available for inspection by anyone at the company’s office during normal business hours. If the company does not have an office, the shareholder records must be available at the company’s place of business during normal business hours”.

Code of Conduct

The EU is undertaking an extensive program of work to harmonise the European securities market. VPS is participating in this program, and is a signatory to the European Code of Conduct for Clearing and Settlement that was issued in 2006.
